Top ideas and tips on indoor play for little ones 

As a mom of 2 I know that any parents first goal is to protect your kids - keeping them safe is always a parent's priority and is even more important now during COVID-19 crisis.  An uncertain situation for all of us, during these testing and unforeseen times, the focus should be to make sure that the kids feel extra safe and loved, helping to calm any anxieties they may have.

We all have been through ups and downs during the last months and that’s totally normal, we worry about our own health and the health of our loved ones. On top of that we are also concerned about the pressures of home schooling, playing from home and our own workload (big shout out to all other parents working from home and managing to home school!) however never fear, being stuck inside doesn't have to mean being bored!

We see you over there: Restless kids fidgeting on the couch, the clock ticking slower than usual, and you’re fresh out of ideas for things to do. Well you’ve come to the right place. We have your back with this list of the best indoor games and activities. How I keep my stress intact is to keep myself and the kids busy – here are my top 6 tips to keep little ones entertained either with you, or whilst you work!

1. Get involved in family games! We love Monopoly Junior (when we have time for a long game) and UNO (for quick family interactions) which we get from MumzWorld.ae. Card games are also great for challenging young minds and creating hours of indoor fun.
2. Keep them active. There are lots of free activity ideas at Kidzapp, a free app created by a dad based in Dubai. They have huge amounts of creative, thought provoking and entertaining activities for kids to enjoy at home – check out their ‘fun at home’ section.
3. Purchase some educational toys. We have lots of educational toys at Elli Junior – the one we use the most at home is the magnet plate, it’s fun and educational for children aged 1 to 3.
4. Put together a treasure hunt. Kids love finding hidden objects — especially when there’s a prize at the end. Simply write your clues on some slips of paper — get creative. Place the first clue somewhere easy to find, like inside your child’s snack or cereal bowl. Then leave as many clues as you like around the house, making a trail to the final clue. Instead of a prize, the treasure hunt can lead to various coins around the house. This way the kids get to collect all the coins and put them in their piggy banks in the end.
5. Whether it's forts made of blankets and pillows or pop up tent (we have a gorgeous selection on Elli Junior), you can approximate the camping experience without having to deal with mosquitoes or mud. But don't forget to make s'mores!
6. Fill a bin with rice and other treasures, plus a few toys, and you have yourself an instant hit with the little ones. Kids can scoop and pour the rice or dig through to find the prizes you've hidden. Just be warned that you'll probably have to vacuum after!

Remember – always look on the bright light. If it wasn’t for Coronavirus, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity spend so much quality time with the people that mean the most for us – there is always a silver lining.

If there is one thing that makes me really happy, it’s surprises. Both my husband and I are ordering a lot online these days, since we avoid going to malls and get close to people during the pandemic. So it’s not a surprise for me when the door bell rings and a courier guy is waiting to hand over a package.

However.. When I opened the door the other day, I couldn’t believe my eyes. A bunch of pink packages were piled up in front of our door and a lovely lady was smiling through her face masks. “What.. what is this?” is all I could stumble. “A few gifts from your friends. You will love them”. Indeed, I loved them already! The packaging, the surprise.. I was so excited! It was obviously a gift for our new baby girl and nowadays these make me even more happy than gifts for myself. Guess that’s what people meant when they told me that I will put my own happiness behind hers. She will be your absolute priority. So true!

Unpacking all these gifts from a super cute shop called “Elli Junior” was a pure joy! We unpacked one package after another and couldn’t believe our eyes. We are so blessed to have received such a generous gift from our dear friends. The design is simple and beautiful. The colors are plain and totally matching our nursery.

Baby Kai has been fiercely independent from the day he was born and has never really been into comforters, pacifiers and cuddly toys, much to mummy’s dismay. That said, I really wanted him to at least take to a pacifier for car journeys or naps.

The ONLY pacifier he loved was from Elli Junior; not a word of a lie, I tried so many! Not only does he love them, so do I! The designs are super cute and the pacifier clips are a great add-on, ensuring that the pacifier doesn’t go AWOL. These would make such a lovely practical and stylish gift for a mummy-to-be’s baby shower. My favourite designs are Marble and Moon Balloon.

Every mum to-be should have muslins on her ‘to buy’ list. You can’t have enough in my opinion. My absolute favourite muslins have to be from Elli Junior. They are unbelievably soft to the touch and very gentle on a baby’s sensitive skin. Made from 100% pure organic cotton, they are not only super cosy, comfy and soft, they are gorgeous too. I used them to place under Kai when taking his daily photos. My favourites have to be the Marble and Moon Balloon designs, to match his favourite pacifiers above.

It is said that babies, when first born up until five months of age, can only see in black and white. Therefore I personally avoided investing in any gaudy brightly coloured playmats until a lot later on. I’m not going to lie, the Elli Junior playmats are not cheap…but oh, aren’t they gorgeous!? They also won’t look out of place as a little rug in a pretty corner of a room once bubs is done with it. I’m loving the Graphic Devotion design in black and white.
